Halogens are group number 17 in the periodic table of elements.
They are in period's 2,3,4,5 & 6.

Solids, Liquids or Gasses?
-The halogen family has them all.
Iodine and Astatine are solids.
Bromine is the only liquid.
Fluorine and Chlorine and gases.
~This is Chlorine in it's gaseous form~ (3)
Physical Properties
Chlorine is a yellowish greenish gas.
The melting and boiling points increase as you descend the group. From Fluorine all the way to Astatine.
Fluorine never has more than 8 electrons around it, but the rest of the elements can have up to 14.
Chemical Properties
Halogens are very high in number with electronegativities.
They also are explosively reactive with the alkali metals and alkali earths.
This family is the most reactive of the non-metals group of elements.
Great Facts
These are non-metallic elements, and are always chemically active.
All these elements can be found in the Earth's crust and atmosphere except Astatine.
Halogen is a Greek for "to produce sea salt"
Bromine vapors are very toxic when you inhale them.
Common uses
Chlorine is put in swimming pools to clean them, it kills off all the bacteria to make it safer for us to swim in. In small doses it kills bacteria. In larger, it could kill a human.
Iodine is put in some medications to treat or control Thyroid disease.
